There’s a place close to my heart

Where my life had its start

A place called Nottingham

That’s where I came from

Since I left the years have passed

They seem to go so fast

It seems so long ago

But I’ve not forgotten

In The Bell was always where we met

The best pint of Mansfield you could get

Maybe then The Salutation and The Trip To Jerusalem

There’s nowhere like it

Except on Sundays when we would tend to be

At the TBI and then The Aviary

Happy pub crawling memories

When we were young and carefree

CHORUS:

Nottingham, the background to my memories

Nottingham, you’re part of who I am

And I will always recount fondly

That I was born and bred in Nottingham

Going to watch The Pies at Meadow Lane

The family cricket match at Highfields once again

Down to Bulwell Market with my mum

A game of snooker and a beer at Barker’s

Pitch and putt at Woodthorpe Park as well

Goose Fair cast a huge magical spell

The breathtaking view from Castle Rock

All the way to Trent Bridge and Green’s Windmill

(CHORUS)

Remember Nottingham’s greatest like we should

Jesse Boot, William Booth and Robin Hood

Albert Ball, John Player, Torville and Dean

D. H. Lawrence and Lord Byron

William Clark, Derek Randall and William Gunn

All the cricket legends one by one

Bill Voce and Harold Larwood too

The formidable Bodyline bowlers

(CHORUS)

I get such a happy feeling when I’m there

The Lace Market, Council House and Old Market Square

Remembering all my favourite clubs

The Cookie, MGM, The Rig and Rock City

The Theatre Royal and The Royal Concert Hall

Bluecoat School and the deer at Wollaton Hall

Where people understand you when you want a cob

That’s where my ancestors came from

(CHORUS x 2)
