The gallery has been updated. Thanks very much to Talent Lab for the most recent ones.
I played 2 open mics in 2 towns the other night! The first one included a 75% reformation of my mid-90s band Strange Daze, at Cookies Bar, in Halifax. Great fun! The opening strains of Pinball Wizard were beyond awesome! Back at The Bankhouse, in Pudsey, I played my song Another Time Another Place for the 1st time in a few years and got the words totally mixed up! Don’t forget that one’s still available as a free download with the words in the right order!
I’ve really been enjoying playing a load of new cover versions recently, having given my repertoire its most comprehensive facelift ever! There’s classics by The Jam that I’ve never previously performed through to more up to date stuff by the likes of Lady Ga Ga and Pharrell Williams to name but a few. It’s meant goodbye to some longstanding features of my repertoire, but that’s a good thing. It feels well refreshed.
Additionally, I’ve been digging into the vaults of my own songs and playing some that I’ve not performed in a long long time at open mics. Keeps things interesting and fun!
Definitely my most significant addition to my repertoire though has been a cover. It’s been much requested since I started doing it. I spent a solid 3 weeks learning it! I’m proud to say that I now do a solo acoustic version of the entirety of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody!
You know, I’ve met some cool people lately and my confidence has received a much needed boost, having been at a low ebb. I’ve been struggling to book gigs, failing to break even on my EP, seeing other local musicians achieving cool things and as a result, I’ve been feeling pretty inadequate. But I’ve managed to get 2 bookings in one day last week and I’ve had a few new friends say some very kind things about my songs and my singing in the last few days. I’ve wasted too much time trying to be an online marketer this last couple of years. It hasn’t paid off and it’s been at the expense of being a musician and the enjoyment that goes with it. My focus will be well and truly back to playing music from hereon. I’m on the up! Thankyou all those who have encouraged me this last few days.

Music lets my soul fly free”

We enjoyed performing again at the Mexborough Arms at the weekend. It was tighter and there was new stuff as well as a couple where we switched the lead vocal. Looking forward to performing again soon.
